Abstract

In the context of a modern society in transition, the various crises, teleworking and the accelerating pace of life are affecting our health. The number of burn-outs is rising steadily in Belgium, and stress is omnipresent.

My research highlights the importance of mental health and well-being in urban areas and the role that architecture and urban planning can play in this. Neuro-architecture, an emerging field, could help explain how our brain functions and how the physical environment impacts us in order to address this stress. Stress negatively affects our mental, physical, and social well-being, and more specifically, our brain. Currently, vision dominates, neglecting the other senses, with the brain and body becoming disconnected entities.

It is, however, by constantly engaging our senses that the body becomes our own tool for perceiving the world. This reconnection of body, heart, and brain enables lasting well-being
